Grange Farm Primary School

We talked to Vicky Noone, Deputy Head at Grange Farm (a large primary school in Coventry with 424 on roll), about the impact of Pageticker on reading.

At a Glance:
88% of parents logging reading weekly
380 average books completed weekly
92% of children have written a book review

“A few clicks and it was up and running”
“It’s got children more engaged in reading”
“In terms of cost, it’s actually saved us”

What was the main reason that you signed up to Pageticker?
It was to engage our children more in reading at home and be able to monitor and track. We previously used paper reading diaries which had very limited success. It’s not a great thing for kids to keep losing and as a parent it's yet another thing to have to find.

How easy was Pageticker to implement?
It was really easy. It was probably easier than ordering, delivering and sorting out paper reading diaries. A few clicks and it was all up and running.

Is Pageticker saving you time?
Teachers are able to see at a glance who's reading, instead of going through 30 different reading diaries that you've got to find, scan and everything else. Pageticker is so visual, we put it up for the kids to see, and they like the competition of seeing whose circle is the biggest. The weekly update we get makes whole school tracking easy, too, I just screenshot it and put it in our newsletter.

How would you describe the impact of Pageticker for pupils within school?
It's got pupils more engaged with reading. Children have said things like “it recommended this book and I've really enjoyed it”. Children like having their own kind of electronic bookshelf. It's easy to nudge parents if they are forgetting to read. We do still have those that we struggle to engage, but it's definitely not the barrier that it was before. There's a lot fewer children that we're struggling with.

Has Pageticker been cost effective?
Yes. I looked at it in terms of what we would pay for paper reading diaries and it was about the same price, however, that wasn't taking into account the number that's lost, or needed for transient or new pupils. So, in terms of cost, it's actually saved us.
