Driving Reading Engagement with Pageticker

Our pilot study showed that parents logged 78% more reading with Pageticker than traditional paper based reading records.

Driving reading engagement is much easier with Pageticker. From push notifications being sent directly to parents' phones, to the simple fact that it's quicker and easier to log reading on the app than having to find a pen. This is especially the case when families have multiple children and multiple reading records.

Here are some of our best tips for driving reading engagement with Pageticker:

Celebrate reading

Lots of our schools encourage reading, whether it be children who read regularly or children who reach their own reading milestones. We know each child is on their own journey.

On Pageticker, at a glance you can see the reading that’s taken place at home or in school by using the home and school filters.

You can see any badges earned by children, on the pupil reading page.

Some of our schools display the last week’s reading achievements on the teacher dashboard as part of their weekly celebration assembly. Click on the Pageticker logo on the teacher dashboard to see this information.

We're sure that some schools will drive reading engagement by sharing some of the contents of our weekly school usage email too.

Encourage parents to link

You'll have asked parents to link to their children when you first started using Pageticker, but did you know that:

a) Multiple parents or adults can be linked to a child's account.

b)  Linking letters can be generated on the teacher dashboard at any time and codes will last for 14 days.

c) Parents can invite another adult to their child’s account through their app by going to the settings page and clicking on their child's name.

d) If parents have a child who isn’t at the same school, they can create a child account (that isn’t linked to the school) on the settings page.

Encourage parents to log reading

Some of our best using schools use the nudge feature to encourage parents to log reading.

Others use the announcements page to send messages to the whole class or school about reading.

Make class QR codes visible in the classroom

A number of our schools have printed off the Scan and Log QR code and put it up in the classroom, so that children can log their own reading in school.

Add your school library books into the Book Catalogue

You might not be aware, but when parents use the Discover section of the parent app, they can see if a book is available in your school library - if it's been scanned into your catalogue.

Adding school library books is a simple process. You'll just need a device with a camera, the teacher dashboard open and a willing and able student library monitor to add the books!

Use Pageticker to start conversations about books

Some of our schools respond to parent comments (you can see these as a notification that will appear on the pupil reading page.) Some schools use comments, reviews and ratings given to start conversations about books.

Other schools will use the trending books in a reading assembly to discuss books. You can view this by clicking the Pageticker logo on the teacher dashboard.

Share the Help Centre with parents

Sometimes parents will need a bit of extra support. Some of our schools will share the link to the Help Centre with parents. We highly recommend this as there are videos and answers to lots of questions that will support them.
