Pageticker is built to motivate children to read more, and there's lots of research that suggests that incentives such as badges and certificates are a great way to help kick start a reading habit (we're also aware that they're not so effective in the longer term - but more of that later!)

We’re delighted to put them live on the teacher dashboard this week. When a child earns a badge, an orange badge notification appears on their reading record.

If you click into the reading records for that day, you can see details of the badge they earned:
Each badge can be converted into a printable certificate. Every child is on their own reading journey; some badges may be more significant to some children than others, so it’s a teacher’s call to decide whether to issue the certificate or not.
As its core design philosophy, Pageticker follows extensive research which suggests that gamification (such as badges) is key to helping children develop a reading habit. Equally, however, this research also recognises that it can’t sustain it in the longer term. Badges, and the other gamification features in Pageticker, are step one on the road to encouraging children to read for pleasure. In the long term their motivation to read needs to be intrinsic. We have features to support this too: children take pride in their bookshelf, their book reviews, their reading profile and their personalised book suggestions. You can read more about this in our white paper.
But for now we’re all about badges… so here they all are:
