Handpicked Suggestion

The weekly handpicked suggestion this week is Myth’s, Gods and Gladiators in Ancient Rome by Stephen Davies and Laurie Avon. It’s suitable for children aged 7+.

In this book, children can learn about six Roman myths, retold in the form of comic strips. From stories about the founding of Rome in Romulus and Remus to the clash with a cyclops in Polyphemus and Ulysses. This book is filled with humour, Roman Gods, and so much more.

This book is sure to delight readers of all ages.

Notable New Release

This week’s notable new release is The Impossible Gladiator by M.G.Leonard. It’s the third book in her Time Keys series. It’s suitable for children aged 8+. One of our team members thinks it’s one of the standout children's series of the last couple of years.

Sim, Jeopardy and Nelson are having an amazing holiday in Rome until they’re swept up in the mysterious disappearance of an illusionist called Kinetic. They find a clue, which leads them to travel through time to Ancient Rome. All is not well and certainly not safe, can they find Kinetic and make it home alive?

This book also has some beautiful black and white illustrations by Manuel Sumberac.

Pageticker Insights: Most popular unicorn books

On Pageticker, we’ve noticed that lots of children are reading books about unicorns, so we thought we’d share some of the most popular series.

  • Ten Minutes To Bed Unicorn series by Rhiannon Fielding and Chris Chatterton (2+)

  • The Unicornia Series by Ana Punset (5+)

  • The Naughtiest Unicorn Series- Pip Bird (5+)

  • Unicorn Academy Series by Julie Sykes (7+)

  • The Skandar Book Series by A.F. Steadman (9+)

Even though all of these books are about unicorns, they are very different books. The Skandar series, for example, is much darker and includes phantom riders and bloodthirsty unicorns. Other books are much more playful, like The Naughtiest Unicorn series, which is designed to make children laugh.
