Ladybridge Community Primary School
We talked to Melissa Whittingham, Literacy Lead at Ladybridge School (a large primary school in Bolton with 369 on roll), about the impact of Pageticker on reading at the school.
At a Glance:
92% of parents logging reading weekly
289 average books completed weekly
94% of children have written a book review
“We quickly got pretty-much everyone signed up”
“Teachers are finding it much quicker”
“They like doing book reviews... they never really did that before”

What was the main reason that you signed up to Pageticker?
Paper diaries were getting lost, not being filled in, falling apart, it was just the main reason children were not reading at home. So we thought, let's try an online resource.
How easy was Pageticker to implement?
It was easy overall. The printed-out letters were handy because any parents that were still not signed up, we could just send them reminders again. They gave us their phones at the door to show them how to do it. These strategies meant that we quickly got pretty-much everyone to sign up. And the fact that it's linked to our school MIS just meant that we could just use it pretty much straight away.
Is Pageticker saving you time?
Yes, absolutely. Teachers are finding it much quicker to read with children. It's made it a lot quicker in terms of adding new books, especially now the children can add their own.
How would you describe the impact of Pageticker for pupils within school?
I think it's definitely driven reading at home more. A lot of books that we had in our reading areas for the children to read if there's time - which there never is - children can now take those books home if they want.
They really like knowing what percentage through a book they are. They like knowing which class has read the most. They like being able to do book reviews which is really nice because they never really did that before. Each week when I post the most-read books and the number of pages read, the children say “let's try and beat it next week”. It's really given them that boost they needed.
Has Pageticker been cost effective?
Definitely. I think that to try and save money, we were buying cheaper paper diaries, but then as a result of that they were having to be replaced all the time. And they didn't do what we needed of them. With Pageticker it's all taken care of, we don't need to worry.
